You may have noticed that I've given up on the cryptic titles thing. Not many responses. :( Never mind, back to my oh-so-witty and sometimes relevant titles.
I was down in my local town earlier today, running a couple of little errands that needed doing, when I noticed that I was getting a few looks from random people. Or rather, my T-shirt was getting a few looks. I had on, and am still wearing, in fact, myy favourite t-shirt. It's a plain white one, but in big, black, bold letters on the chest, it says "stiff." Genius. It's an fcuk t-shirt, and this kind of slogan is what they're famous for. It was quite funny watching people doing double takes, their heads tilting to read my chest, rocking back a little, then tilting forward to re-read it and convince themselves they saw what they thought they saw. Even the girl behind the counter in the fish-and-chip shop this evening paused for a second as she was serving me to read it. Makes me chuckle.
Thursday, July 10Righty, no post for a little while, but what with one thing and another I haven't got round to it. I've been ill for a few days, really nasty cold or a short burst of flu, I'm not sure which. Got over that though, all better now. I had to go home from work on Sunday night because I was feeling so bad. I had Monday night off as well because I still wasn't feeling 100%. I'm glad that I did go home from work on Sunday, since the rest of the guys were there until 5.30am. Not for me thankyou, especially since on a Sunday we start at 6pm. 11 and a half hours of hard work would kill me. Oh well, back again tonight for 8+ hours.
I was there for 10 hours on Tuesday night, which wasn't handy, since Wednesday I had to drive to London, 2 hours away. I was knackered by the time I drove back last night, it had been a long day. What happened yesterday was that me and all of the people that I'm living with next year had to go back to London to sign our Tenancy Agreement. A 2 hour drive each way for me, all for about 30 minutes of activity. Grrrr. It was cool to see all the boys again though, share a couple of stories, generally about my driving escapades.
What else has been happening? I picked up Jennifer Government from my local bookshop today, looking forward to reading that. I've got to finish the Communist Manifesto first though. I've read the Manifesto itself, now I'm reading the accompanying essay on Communism itself by some bigwig Professor-type. It's easy to see how the Manifesto had such a profound effect on millions across the globe. It's written very powerfully, and the solutions to the class-divide it proposes are sensible and relatively simple to comprehend. The aforementioned essay, on the other hand, is a typical academic work, i.e inaccessible and full of unnecessary big words. I enjoyed Globalization and its Discontents for precisely the opposite reason. Yes, it was written by an academic, but it is written in a style which makes it accessible and enjoyable to read.
I've been working on some designs for a new website, RAGE. This started as an underground community on Fatdog, but has since split and evolved. I want to take it to the next level, and have a website which is a community of angry people and angry writing. I'm pleased with the way it looks, not bad for a couple of hours work, starting from scratch. You can have a look at the initial design here. None of the links work yet, it's just a design template.
I've also got a couple of posts in the draft stage for when I've had a boring day with nothing to write about, and I'm sort of planning a Movies page too. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
