Yeah, But I've Been Busy

I really should get back to posting here more often. What can I give as a worthwhile excuse? I'll go with the incredible workload that I've been putting on myself recently. In the past few weeks I've been doing at least 4 double shift days at the three pubs (yes, it's three now) I work at each week, and generally working the other day too.

The one day I've had off in midweek was yesterday, but even then I spent all day packing my shit in my room and spending some time with my parents. I just can't seem to find a minute to myself, and when I do I want / need to spend it doing nothing; just sitting back from the world and taking time out.

Unfortunately that doesn't include this blog. As much as I love writing here, I cannot find the energy or inclination to do so. There's been times this week where I have written (in my head) my final post, pretty much word-for-word from top to bottom. But I don't want to bring it to a close just yet. I still feel as if I have material in me that needs writing, that wants to be set forth on the page.

Finding the time to do so, however, could be difficult. I'm working double shifts tomorrow and Friday, but I thankfully have the weekend free. I'm going for a few drinks (hurrah!) with a friend of mine up near her home in Watford on Sunday, and will probabky end up saying my final goodbyes to her then before I fly out to Germany.

Less than two weeks away, for those who are interested. It hit me yesterday when I said goodbye to my parents that in two weeks I will be living in a foreign country. It's both exciting me and scaring the living crap out of me. Admittedly, London is just about a foreign country compared to back home in Melksham, but at least they speak English here.

Well, most people do. Last Friday, when the pub was already packed solid, around 30 young adults from a nearby English language school descended on us. It couldn't have been the graduating class, because most of them were terrible at speaking English! Most were Japanese, with a few Hispanic types, so luckily the other girl behind the bar with me was able to talk to them in Japanese. She's Japanese too, but speaks brilliant English. We're very multi-lingual behind that bar, what with me speaking German and a smattering of Spanish too. Now if only the punters could speak bloody English!

I got a real compliment that night, come to think of it. One of the regulars, who'd had a couple but wasn't anywhere near being drunk, was chatting to me when he told that I was a "true barman". He said that the other two I was working with, whilst being perfectly nice and competent, were mere "servers", whereas I was more of a barman.

I took that as a really great thing to say, since it was akin to being judged as a person, as a whole. It also tied in with a post I've been meaning to write here for a few weeks (Christ, has it been that long?!), about how ultra-confident I feel behind a bar, and how it is my stage to act on, to present myself. Perhaps another time I will eventually get round to doing that one.

The only other worthy bit of news is that I may be doing film reviews for MegaStar, the Daily Star's website. I got this potential gig through someone I met quite randomly in the pub whilst working. I followed our conversation up with an email, and things have accelerated from there. Hopefully I can get something written relatively soon, and have my first piece of published work. Hopefully. Yay for me.

And that's about it. My mind's gone blank, what with being knackered and all that, so I guess it's time to end this once more rambling monologue and retire to my bed. My bed that now has no bedding on it, having been taken by my parents back to their house. I'm currently using a sleeping bag as a quilt, which is quite fantastic, I tell you.

To quote Wayne's World: Not!

Until next time, same Robchannel, same Robtime (maybe not...).
